Eskimos Distribute $695K to Amateur Football

The Edmonton Eskimos are proud to announce a donation of $695,000 to support the development of amateur football in Northern Alberta

Through the 2016 50/50 game-day raffle program, presented by belairdirect, the Eskimos distributed:

  • $225,000 to the Edmonton Huskies Junior Football Club
  • $225,000 to the Edmonton Wildcats Junior Football Club
  • $110,000 to the University of Alberta Golden Bears
  • $100,000 to Football Alberta (Northern Alberta programs)
  • $35,000 to the Edmonton Eskimo Alumni Association’s Amateur Football Initiatives

“Our 50/50 program, and its link to developing amateur football across northern Alberta has become the gold standard. We have created significant momentum among football stakeholders and are proud to help provide for athletes of all ages, at all levels access to our sport,” says Eskimos President and CEO Len Rhodes.

The donation to Golden Bears Football includes an annual $50,000 donation to support athletic scholarships — part of a $250,000, five-year commitment announced in 2015.

Through the Eskimos 50/50 program, presented by belairdirect, fans buy raffle tickets to support amateur football at every Eskimos home game. During the fourth quarter, a winning ticket is randomly drawn, and one lucky fan takes home 50 per cent of proceeds from the game’s ticket sales. Last season there were ten lucky winners with the highest single-game take home jackpot reaching $222,667 – occurring on November 5, when the Eskimos donated $100,000 to the raffle, starting the take home jackpot at $50,000.
