Live Blog: CFL Draft


Welcome to live blog for the 2013 CFL Draft. The Esks have six selections, beginning with the first pick in the second round. Check back for real-time updates of today’s draft action.

The Eskimo picks will proceed as follows:

Round two: 1st pick (10th overall)
Round three: 6th pick (24th overall), 8th pick (26th overall)
Round four: 4th pick (31st overall)
Round six: 7th pick (51st overall)
Round seven: 3rd pick (55th overall)


11:18 a.m.                         Esks select DL Stefan Charles 10th overall

Eskimo General Manager Ed Hervey says of Stefan Charles: “We’re happy to add Charles to the Eskimo family. We chose the best player available to us, as was our plan going into this draft. We know we are going to have to wait awhile. He is physical, tough and plays with an edge. He has the attitude we want to reinforce to our football team.”


Standing at six-foot-five and 324lbs, the product of the Regina Rams was ranked second overall in the CFL scouting rankings.

Charles finishes his CIS career with 50.5 tackles and 9.5 sacks. The Oshawa, Ont., native recently signed with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.


Esks select LB Kyle Norris 24th overall


At six-foot-three and 232lbs, Norris finished the 2012 season 48 tackles, three sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.

12:18 p.m.

Esks select OL Christopher Mercer 26th overall


The six-foot-seven product of Saskatoon  started every game for the Rams at left tackle and earned a nod as second-team All-Canadian and Canada West All-Star in 2012.Mercer never missed a game in his four-year CIS career.

12:30 p.m.

Esks select LB Jorgen Hus 31st overall


Hus recently signed an NFL deal with the St. Louis Rams. In 2012, Hus recorded 12 solo tackles and 11 assisted tackles, with the bulk of his tackles coming on special teams.

12:40 p.m.

Esks trade DL Etienne Legare to Calgary for the 34th overall pick select University of Ottawa OL Taylor Servais


Taylor Servais from the University of Ottawa Gee- Gees is a six-foot-four, 300lb tackle who was selected to the East-West Bowl and a second team OUA all-star in 2012.

1:15 p.m.

Esks select DL Elie Ngoyi 51st overall


At six-foot-two and 270 lbs, Ngoyi  finished the 2012 season with 38.5 tackles and 4.5 sacks. The Sherbrooke, Que native was ranked 12th by the CFL scouting bureau.

1:23 p.m.

Esks select FB Smith Wright 55th overall


Wright, a six-foot-two 220lb native of Calgary, carried the ball 11 times for 22 yards and one touchdown in 2012. The three-year Golden Bear, is a multi-talented athlete as he was also a member of the Bears’ track and field team competing in shot put.
