Esks load up on Canadian talent in trade with Hamilton

(Edmonton) – The Edmonton Eskimos Football Club has acquired non-import linebacker Nathan Kanya and the rights to non-import offensive lineman Carson Rockhill in exchange for non-import offensive lineman Greg Wojt, import quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and import linebacker Simoni Lawrence.

Kanya joins the Eskimos after originally signing with Hamilton as a free agent on March 1, 2011. In two seasons, he recorded 23 special teams tackles, a defensive tackle and a fumble recovery. Prior to the Tiger-Cats, Kanya played five seasons  (2006-10) at UBC where he recorded 120 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, eight quarterback sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Carson Rockhill

College: Calgary
Height: 6.06
Weight: 284

Rockhill was originally selected by the Tiger-Cats in the second round (13th overall) of the 2012 CFL Canadian Draft. He elected to return to the University of Calgary Dinos to complete his education and play another year of CIS football.

Wojt played 52 games with the green and gold since initially signing on May 1, 2009. He was originally drafted by the Eskimos with their first pick (2nd round, 11th overall) in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft.

Masoli signed with Edmonton as a free agent on April 10, 2012. He spent the season on the nine-game injured list.

Lawrence signed on Jan. 10, 2012 as a free agent. In 15 games (one start), he had 15 defensive tackles, 11 special teams tackles and a fumble recovery.
