JC Sherritt named Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year

(Edmonton) – Eskimo middle linebacker JC Sherritt was named the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year at Thursday’s Gibson’s Finest CFL Player Awards ceremony in Toronto, topping off a record-setting season filled with accolades.

In just his second pro year, the Eastern Washington product earned Defensive Player of the Week four times, Defensive Player of the Month three times, was named a West Division All-Star and was the West Division winner of the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award.

He finished the 2012 season with three special teams tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two knockdowns and five interceptions for 56 yards. On November 2, he set a league record for defensive tackles in a season when he registered his 130th tackle in the final game of the regular season against the Calgary Stampeders. The previous record of 129 tackles was set by Toronto Argonaut Calvin Tiggle in 1994. The week prior, Sherritt set a new team record for defensive tackles, passing Willie Pless who registered 117 tackles in 1998.
