Acquired: Signed as a free agent on April 24, 2009.
2009: (Edmonton) Whitlock was on the reserve list for the first game of the season. He got his first start in the second game. He had 211 carries for 1293 yards and 12 touchdowns and 44 receptions for 392 yards and one touchdown in 17 games (17 starts). He also had 14 kickoff returns for 397 yards, including a 65-yarder in on July 30 against Montreal which earned his CFL Special Teams Player of the Week honours. On August 29 against Hamilton, Whitlock had a three-touchdown game, catching six passes for 62 yards and a touchdown and running 13 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns. On Sept. 26 against Saskatchewan, Whitlock ran for a 55-yard touchdown. On October 16 in Toronto, Arkee had his highest rushing game, carrying the ball 17 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns. He was named CFL Offensive Player of the Week in the final game of the season when he rushed for 165 yards and two TDs. Whitlock was the Eskimo nominee for Most Outstanding Rookie. Playoffs: Whitlock started the Western Semi-Final. He rushed for 50 yards on 11 carries and had two catches for eight yards.
Career: Whitlock originally signed as a rookie free agent in 2007 with the Minnesota Vikings. He was released by the Vikings during training camp and was picked up by the San Francisco 49ers and saw playing time during the preseason. He was released by the 49ers after the preseason and resigned with the Vikings. He spent the entire ’07-’08 season on Minnesota’s practice squad until his release in 2008.
College/Personal: Whitlock transferred to SIU from Coffeyville Community College in 2004. He emerged as one of the all-time best running backs in SIU history, despite only playing three years. Arkee set a school records in career all-purpose yards(5,999), scoring (150 points), rushing TDs (25) and single-season all-purpose yards (2,330). As a senior, Whitlock ran for 100+ yards 10 of 13 games played; ranked first in Gateway Conference for kick returns and all-purpose yards; and second in the nation for all-purpose yards. In his junior year, Whitlock ran for 1,454 yards which was 3rd best in SIU history for a season. He attended Rock Hill High School (Rock Hill, SC) where he played at middle linebacker until his senior year when he moved to running back. He also played on the school’s basketball team. Whitlock is related to Cincinnati Bengal CB Jonathan Joseph. He has one child, Kee’Lani. His favourite actor is the late great Richard Pryor. Arkee would like to move into sports broadcasting when his playing career is over.
