Acquired: Re-signed on November 25, 2008. Originally acquired from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for Edmonton’s first round selection in the 2009 CFL Canadian Draft and a conditional pick in the 2010 Canadian Draft

2009: (Edmonton) In 17 games Prefontaine had 114 punts for 5054 yards (44.3 avg), 98 kickoffs for 5555 yards (56.7 avg) and is 28 of 37 (76%, Longest: 49) on field goals. He also added five special teams tackles. He kicked a 49-yarder with less than a minute left in the game against Hamilton on August 29 to put the Esks up by a point and secure an EE victory, earning him Special Team Player of the Week. On Sept 20 in Saskatchewan, Pre ran seven yards for a first down on a fake punt and on Oct. 2 in Winnipeg he ran 31 yards on a fake punt. He was on the reserve list on Oct 30 due to injury. Playoffs: In the Western Semi-Final Prefontaine had eight punts for 339 yards (42.4 avg) and five kickoffs for 340 yards (68.0 avg). He was also two-for-two on field goals.

2008:  (Edmonton) Prefontaine played 17 games as the Eskimo kicker and punter. He had 103 punts for 4,831 yards (46.9 average) and 77 kickoffs for 4,636 yards (60.2 avg). He was 35 for 46 on field goals (avg 26.4), his longest was a 54-yarder in first game of the season. He had seven singles and five special teams tackles. On Oct 4 vs. Wpg, Prefontaine orchestrated a successful fake punt when he threw a 19-yard pass to McCarty, which led to an Eskimo touchdown. Pre missed the final game of the season due to illness. In the East Semi-Final he was two of four on field goals. He punted 11 times for 463 yards and had five kickoffs for 263 yards (52.6 avg). In the East Final he was two for two on field goals. He punted eight times for 402 yards and four kickoffs for 198 yards (49.5 avg).

Career: Prefontaine entered the CFL in 1998 when he joined the Toronto Argonauts as a punter. He finished second in punting in the CFL that year with a 46.7 average. In 2001 he played for the XFL’s LA Extreme and then signed with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. He rejoined the Argos in August 2001. The next season he again finished second in the league in punting (46.1 yard average) and also added field goal kicking to his duties. In 2006 he booted his 512th career kickoff to become the club’s career leader.

College/Personal: He started two years at San Diego State where he earned First-Team All-American honours during his senior year and was also a First-Team All-WAC Pacific Division selection. He set school records for punting average in single season (46.5) and the longest single punt (82 yards). He began his college career at Cal-State Fullerton in 1992. He majored in criminal justice. Noel spent many of his early years growing up in Montreal. He was a quarterback at El Camino High School in the San Diego area. He and his wife, Tanya, have a son, Noah.
