Rick Campbell
Special Teams Coordinator

Rick enters his 12th season with the Eskimos and will continue to lead the club’s special teams personnel. Last season, the Eskimo cover teams were consistently among the top in the league and the Esks' finished first in the league in net punting.

Campbell spent his first 10 CFL seasons with the Eskimos (1999-2008).  He then spent two seasons away with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2009) and Calgary Stampeders (2010) before returning to the Esks last season. In 2009, Rick was the Defensive Backs and Special Teams Coordinator for the Bombers and, in 2010, he oversaw the Stampeder running backs.  Calgary ended the season leading the league in rushing yards (2618) and carries (429). 

Prior to joining the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Campbell spent a decade(1999-2008) on the Edmonton Eskimo coaching staff.  During his last four years with the Green and Gold he served as the defensive coordinator.  With his defences consistently leading the league in several defensive categories, Rick emerged as one of the best defensive coaches in the league and has been part of two Grey Cup Championship teams (’03, ’05). 

Before moving to the CFL coaching ranks, Rick spent three seasons (1996-1998) at the University of Oregon working with the Ducks’ defensive secondary.  In 1994-1995, Rick was a teacher and coach at the Spokane Lewis and Clark High School tutoring wide receivers and working with the school’s baseball team.  Primarily raised in Edmonton, Rick was a member of Harry Ainlay High School’s provincial championsip-winning football team and was honoured as Athlete of the Year upon graduation in 1989.

Rick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Washington State University.  He and his wife Jeri reside in Edmonton year-round.
