Profile: Kit Lathrop

Kit Lathrop
Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Line Coordinator

Lathrop returns for his second season with the Esks and adds the role of Assistant Head Coach to his duties for 2012. Lathrop’s work with the D-line last year, most notably with rookies Marcus Howard and Julius Williams, produced Edmonton’s best pass rush in recent years.

Kit has over 20 years of football experience in both player and coaching capacities.  Known as one of the best USFL players of all time, the California native spent two seasons in the USFL appearing in the Championship game in 1984.  He was named to the USLF All League Team both years.

Kit entered the CFL coaching ranks with the Memphis Mad Dogs in 1995.  He went on to be the defensive line coach with the BC Lions for two seasons (`99-2000) winning the Grey Cup with the Leos in 2000.  Following his stint in BC, the Arizona State University graduate spent the 2002 season with the Ottawa Renegades as the defensive line coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator in 2003.

Prior to joining the CFL, Lathrop has been on the coaching staff of Arizona State University, Arizona Western College and University of Nevada-Las Vegas.
