Profile: Derrell Mitchell

Derrell "Mookie" Mitchell

After serving as a scout and guest coach for the Esks over the past few years,  Mitchell joins the staff on a full-time basis.

A perennial All-Star slotback during his CFL career with Toronto (1997-‘2003, 2007) and Edmonton (2004 -’06), Mitchell made an immediate impact as an Argo in 1997 winning the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie Award and his first Grey Cup. He won his second Grey Cup as an Eskimo in 2005.

Derrell had several career milestones during his playing career. In 1998 he caught a CFL season record 160 receptions for 2,000 yards. In 2007, he became the Argonauts' all-time leading receiver. He set franchise records for touchdown receptions and 100-yard games and ended his CFL career with over 12,000 receiving yards.

A native of Miami, Mitchell played two seasons at Texas Tech after transferring from Joliet Junior College.
