(Edmonton)  The Edmonton Eskimos have signed the CFL’s 2011 Most Outstanding Canadian Jerome Messam to a new contract, the club announced today.

Messam emerged as one of the league’s top stars in 2011 where he lead the Esks in rushing recording 1057 yards on 195 carries and six touchdowns; he also registered 27 receptions for 248 yards in 18 games. He also played in the Western Final against Calgary where he recorded 9 carries for 32 yards and one touchdown, and two receptions for 14 yards.

Messam’s post-season was cut short after he suffered a season ending knee injury during the Western Final, and underwent knee surgery in November of 2011.

The Toronto, Ontario native reached the 1000+ yards rushing mark for the first time in his career, and he was the first Canadian since 2000 to break the 1000+ yards rushing mark. The Graceland University product was also named as the CFL Most Outstanding Canadian in 2011.  

Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "We're very pleased to reach a contract extension with Jerome through the 2014 season.  He's happy to be back in green and gold, and I'm sure our fans will welcome Jerome with great enthusiasm."

Messam recently returned to the Esks after attending the NFL’s Miami Dolphins training camp.
