(Edmonton) The Eskimos will hit the road for the first time in 2012 as they travel to Saskatchewan to face Darian Durant and the rest of the upstart Roughriders. Both teams are coming off Week 1 wins, with the Esks victorious over Toronto and the Riders dominant in Hamilton.
Sunday will mark the return of RB Hugh Charles and WR Cary Koch to Mosaic Stadium. Charles came to Edmonton in a trade on October 12 and Koch signed as a free agent with the Green and Gold during the offseason. “I’m ready to go back and be on the other side,” the receiver said. “Being the hated opponent in Mosaic is a pretty hostile environment for everyone.” Although the crowd is always a factor, Koch is excited and is up for the challenge.
Steven Jyles will look to improve on last week’s performance, as he went 21 of 36 for 236 yards with an interception. Surely the offense will need to produce touchdowns as Saskatchewan put up a league-high 43 points in the opening week of the season. Grant Shaw will look to build on a great start to 2012 after connecting on all 4 field goal attempts and also adding a single point.
On the other side of the ball, Saskatchewan looked strong in every facet of the game. Durant picked up Offensive Player of the Week honors, throwing for nearly 400 yards along with 4 touchdowns. Weston Dressler will surely draw extra attention from the Eskimo defense after hauling in 3 touchdowns and 180 receiving yards against the Tiger-Cats.
The two clubs next square off againt on August 10 at Commonwealth Stadium.
Catch Sunday's game on TSN and 630 CHED at 5pm.
