(Edmonton) The Eskimos travel east to Hamilton to take on their seventh and final opponent of the 2012 season. Edmonton sits at 5-5 in the West after two straight losses against the Stampeders while the Ti-Cats have a 3-7 record and limp in to the matchup after coming up short in the previous five weeks.
The Green and Gold acquired Hamilton FB Darcy Brown on Thursday just prior to the two teams squaring off. The Saint Mary's alum swapped clubs with DB Ricardo Colclough and the Esks' 6th round pick in the 2015 CFL Canadian Draft. While Brown isn't expected to be worked into the offence this week, Edmonton will utilize another recent addition. Non-import kickers were exchanged for one another with the Alouettes on Wednesday as Derek Schiavone was traded along with 1st and 3rd round picks in the 2013 Draft for Brody McKnight, a former Montana Grizzly who is yet to play north of the border.
The Eskimos won both meetings a season ago: a 28-10 win in their home opener and a 38-23 victory on the road in Week 12. RB Jerome Messam ran for 243 yards and found the end zone four times in those two games combined, while SB Fred Stamps had 308 receiving yards and one touchdown. The offense will be looking to put up similar numbers against a desperate Tiger-Cat team as QB Kerry Joseph will start under centre for the third game in a row.
The Eskimo special teams will have their work cut out for them containing WR/KR Chris Williams who recently broke a CFL record with his sixth kick return for a touchdown in one season – and he still has eight games to go. The reigning Most Outstanding Rookie currently leads the league in touchdowns with eleven as his blazing speed has also been put to good use in the Hamilton offence.
RB Cory Boyd will sit out this week, but the services of starting defensive tackle Ted Laurent will finally be made available. Laurent will start after being out of the lineup for five weeks and Jermaine Reid will be activated not only for the first time this year but also just before facing his former team.
Tune in to TSN or listen live to 630 CHED for the kickoff at 1:00pm.
