(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have reached a verbal agreement with free agent import running back Cory Boyd, the club announced today.  

Boyd joined the Argonauts in 2010 and has spent the first part of the 2012 season with Toronto. In more than two seasons Boyd has played in 36 games, where he has carried the ball 495 times for 2,497 yards and 14 touchdowns; he also registered 83 receptions for 551 yards and four touchdowns.

The New Jersey native was named a CFL All-Star in his rookie season and currently leads the CFL in rushing with 82 carries for 447 yards and two touchdowns, and has rushed for over a 1000 yards in each of his seasons with the Argonauts.

The University of South Carolina product was selected in the 7th round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2008 NFL Draft. He spent time in the NFL with the Buccaneers and the Denver Broncos.

General Manager Eric Tillman says, "We are very pleased to have reached a verbal agreement with Cory and his agents Gil Scott and Tim Fleiszer tonight. Cory will be flying into Edmonton Monday morning, where he will take a physical and sign a new contract with our club."

"We feel that Hugh Charles, Calvin McCarty and Cory Boyd will give us one of the best backfield combinations in our league."
