(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have signed import quarterback Kerry Joseph to a practice roster agreement, the club announced today.
"Kerry will be flying in tomorrow, and he has accepted a position on our practice roster; and, additionally, we have agreed to a conditional contract for the balance of this season, and next year,” says Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman. “It's very possible that Kerry will be activated this weekend, but that will be Richie's decision.
Tillman further states, "Given the uncertainty of Ricky's status the next couple of weeks, and, after watching the nightmare quarterbacking scenario unfold in Winnipeg on Saturday, this is a recommendation I made to Richie this morning. We had discussed this as a 'what if' scenario a couple of weeks back, but, it became a very serious discussion today. Richie and I both are very pleased to add a proven veteran at such a critical position, especially at this time of the year. With fresh legs, a healthy body, and tons of playing experience in pressure packed games, Kerry has much to offer if he's called upon."
Eight-year CFL veteran Kerry Joseph spent 2009 with the Toronto Argonauts appearing in all 18 regular season games (10 starts). He threw for 2244 yards, 10 touchdowns and 16 interceptions on 185 completions (337 attempts). He also rushed 52 times for 302 yards and two touchdowns. The Louisiana native has been on the rosters of the Ottawa Renegades (2003-2005) and the Saskatchewan Roughriders (2006-2007), in addition to the Toronto Argonauts (2008-2009). He played a pivotal role in the 2007 Grey Cup as he led the ‘Riders to their third Grey Cup Championship in franchise history. Kerry was named a 2007 Western Division and League All-Star and was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player for that year.
