College/Personal:
Before switching to fullback once he turned pro, Mathieu played quarterback at Laval University. In 2003, his outstanding play earned Mathieu his second straight Quebec conference MVP award and a Hec Crighton Trophy nomination as Canadian university football's Outstanding Player. After a being drafted in the fifth round by the Montreal Alouettes in 2003, Bertrand was later released and returned to university football that fall. Mathieu and his wife Sarah have two children, daughter Naomi and son Donovan. |

Bertrand made his pro debut in Week 1 of the 2004 season against Montreal. He has seen action as a fullback and on special teams. Bertrand scored his first career touchdown in 2005 vs. Hamilton in Week 6. He was the Eskimo nominee for Rookie of the Year in 2004. |
