Wow, what a day! We had arrived in Toronto early Thursday morning just in time to get our first taste of the 100th Grey Cup Celebration. Greeted instantly by a sea of fans hailing from all colors, we made our way to the first meet and greet of the weekend.
Since then, we have had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful fans of the CFL and were able to give them a true Eskimo Cheer Team experience with our performances – specifically our Extravaganza routine, in which we have heard nothing but good things about. For the last month we had been working on perfecting our routine for the Cheer Extravaganza performance that took place today, Saturday November 24th in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Cheer Extravaganza showcases performances from all of the cheer teams in the CFL. Each team puts together a 5-8 minute routine that highlights the amazing talents of each and every outstanding athlete in CFL cheerleading.
Even though it has been a long weekend, from 6:00 A.M. Field rehearsals to 11:00 P.M. Performances, there was so much energy that afternoon and the concentration of talent and skill was unbelievable! Every team was excited to finally show CFL fans just how talented we are and it was so great to finally meet the other cheer teams and to watch them perform. It’s amazing how every team was so supportive of one another and that today was more about our passion for the sport and cheer then it was about being best. Each performance brought something different to the table, whether it was the awesome stunting from both Saskatchewan and Winnipeg (and of course, yours truly!) or the sassy hard hitting routines of the Argo ladies, every team is so talented in so many ways.
I have come to realize this Grey Cup weekend that every fan, player or cheerleader, no matter what color or roots is supportive of one another and that’s what makes the Canadian Football League so special! Fans from all over the map cheered everyone on at the performance today which made the Cheer Extravaganza so exhilarating.
All season I have heard my teammates rave about the Grey Cup experience, but what made it truly special for me today was the Spirit of Edmonton breakfast. While any experience to meet our fans is a great one, this breakfast was particularly rewarding because it wonderful to see just how supportive our fans really are! The Spirit of Edmonton venue has to be my favorite by far out of all of the CFL rooms – the support, the energy, the fans, everything, remind me how proud I am to be an Edmonton Eskimo.
